Religious leaders in Kenya have backed a national campaign to improve the health of children under the age of five in Nairobi.

The Malezi Bora programme is an initiative of the Ministry of Health and the United Nations children’s agency UNICEF. The services offered by the programme include immunization, provision of Vitamin A supplements, protection against malaria, advice on breastfeeding and nutrition for families, de-worming, weight monitoring for children, care for expectant mothers and advice on hygiene.

Christian, Muslim and Hindu leaders appealed to parents and guardians to take their children to health facilities to receive the Malezi Bora services.

“As parents, one of the responsibilities we have is raising our children. God in His infinite Grace and Mercy has blessed us with these beautiful gifts. Children are the most valuable treasures that we have been entrusted with to love and protect,” the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya said.

“What better way to prepare them for the future than by nurturing them well to ensure they grow into healthy adults who can contribute to the development of our nation? A healthy start is the foundation of a healthy future.”

The faith leaders urged parents and guardians to visit health centres and demand the Malezi Bora services.

“The Most High rewards everything you do for your children. Many years later, your children will all grow up, strong and healthy with their own families. Then you will fully appreciate the beauty of creation.”
